Jennie’s Story — A Personal Romans 8:28
On January 16, 1997, I lost my Daddy’s sister to cancer. She was not only my aunt but also my buddy. We did everything together that we could. My Mom and I took her for her treatments, and I took her breakfast, while Mom took her lunch with enough for supper, most times. Mom had to give her the shots when her counts were low; I couldn’t handle that. It was really hard driving to Florence without her for a long time because she was supposed to be in the seat beside me, especially to Florence, where she went to the Cancer Clinic. When the phone would ring at times when she used to call, I would go to answer the phone, thinking it was her. I remember the days we had to start cooking at our home because the smell of food made her sick. How clear drinks stayed down better than dark ones. How, of all things, orange-sherbet and peach-flavored drinks would stay on her stomach! We used to get a Wendy’s frosty and fry on the way home from the doctor. We each had one of each, then it went to, two Frostys and one fry together, then to her taking bites on my frosty and fry.
*****Please DO NOT eat such SUGAR and bad fat products; we did not know at the time just how bad all these things are in the fight against cancer. Sugar feeds cancer, and it grows. *****
I wrote a poem titled, ‘If,’ talking about how she stayed so happy, she’d even say, “Let’s go make some memories,” even when I knew she did not feel well. At her death, I went through the worst pain and feelings I have ever been through in my life! At the time, I did not do funerals (because I had a “Religion” and not a Relationship with my Jesus), and bless her soul, she had a funeral here, where she lived, and one in West Virginia, where she was buried! For the longest time, I fussed at her for putting me through two funerals!! During a time of loss and grief in your life, trust Jesus, who said He will send the Great Comforter. You will feel Him comforting you in ways you can’t even imagine.
“My peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives; do I give to you. LET NOT your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
If Jesus says we can LET NOT, then we CAN let not our hearts be troubled!” Abba God cares for us, and He hears our cry. Abba God does “work all things to good to those who love him and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
I would have never thought that we would be involved in a Cancer Support Ministry, which was started by someone dear to me who also had breast cancer! And now, we carry on her legacy and give support to victims, their families, and “Overcomers” of cancer.
Aunt Ellen’s death was the worst time in my life. Then, seeing my dear friend Amanda and her family go through the same pain was now the worst time in my life. But seeing it all through the eyes of Christ made all the difference. Through my sad experience, I am able to show others that if you have a “RELATIONSHIP” with Jesus, and not just a “RELIGION,’ you can be an OVERCOMER!! No matter the outcome of the cancer or any other devil in your life, the difference is really knowing Christ. There is freedom in Christ Jesus. Glory to God!
Many prayers and much love,
Jennie
